Ed Hollox is Reader in the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology at the University of Leicester. Following an undergraduate degree at Cambridge, a PhD in Genetics in the Galton Laboratory at UCL and postdoctoral work at the University of Nottingham, he joined the University of Leicester in 2006.

His interest is in the evolution of structural variation of the genome, including variation in the copy number of genes. Most of his work focuses on inherited variation that differs between individuals of the same species, but he has recently broadened his research to include somatic variation that differs between cells of the same individual, including tumours.
